The emergency management major focuses on disaster prevention, planning, preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery. The curriculum covers needs and issues, operations management, planning and response, and terrorism and is designed to provide students with a global outlook, interpersonal skills, and emergency management knowledge and skills.
Students are prepared for leadership positions in emergency management
in government and industry or for graduate study in emergency management, homeland security, or management and leadership. Coursework may also fill requirements related to the National Fire Protection Association Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs (1600), qualification as a Certified Emergency Manager, and other professional association certifications.
